I don't believe we've spoken before. And it's very important to me. I would really rather not have conversations I believed were private suddenly be not.
I guess that's fair, I'd be worried too. I don't know what caused it.
It's just, we rode on the air on boards back home, but the air's not the same here so I can't do it, and I haven't really found any other options yet. I miss flying.
[A part of her would have been disappointed if she'd been asked for just the short answer.] On our world there was a species living alongside us known as the Scub Coral. They had merged with the land itself and they were hibernating.
The air was filled with "trapar" and that's the energy we used to fly.
It was believed that the trapar was the thoughts of the hibernating Scub. "A thought carries energy." No Scub, no trapar, no flight.
I see. That's fascinating. So this coral somehow created a sort of ethereal energy that could be harnessed for flight? Did this trapar have any other uses? Do you know how, specifically, it was used for flight? My mental image is that it somehow made the air itself denser, but I can imagine that would cause a number of existential problems, so that likely can't be right.
I really don't, unfortunately. I was a pilot, not a mechanic. I sort of know what I do just because I saw some of the scientists talk about it in a video. I know that humans couldn't see the "waves" though.
That's fair. I wasn't expecting you to be an expert on the subject, admittedly.
My world had something... vaguely similar, though not entirely: magical energy. The world's leylines, the remnants of the great Yggdrasil-- the source of all magic. Stray too far without a router or a battery backup, and your magic would cease to exist. An invisible energy in the air all around us, unseen but very useful.
You should find someone! If it interests you, it should be fun to share it with other people! It's too bad you probably can't share it with the locals, huh... that'd give away that you're not from here.
Obviously not the locals. They're fairly tolerant of magic in general, but the specifics may not be what they're used to.
I have spoken with several other magic-users and compared notes, so to speak, but it's not a consistent arrangement. And any others from my school are still in stasis.

The repair seems to have been effectively flawless.

Besides, they're hardly uncommon where I'm from.

Can you elaborate? What makes air any different than... air?

I'm rather intrigued.

How does that work for you, coming here? Do you... still need a battery or a similar source like you had, or did it... adapt?

I've not encountered any problems. If anything, it's been easier to use magic here than back home.
I have my own theories on that, but I won't bore you with the details. They'd likely be meaningless to you anyway.

I bet easier use of magic helps with your flying broom, huh? [because of course it would circle back to that. come on.]

It isn't a problem, though. I'm not bothered.
It is nice to not have to worry about taking it too far from the leylines, I'll grant.

Well, good luck, um... I'm not used to getting messages from people I haven't met!
no subject
I'm not used to them sending to people I haven't met, either.
I wonder what caused it.
